Isidro Castillo and the School of Hard Knocks, first-time pro promoter on the July 10 card in Hobbs, will hold his next show Oct. 2 in Clovis. Originally, Castillo had planned an Aug. 7 show in Los Lunas, followed by a Clovis show Aug. 21, but is spending the time to perfect an Oct. 2 card there.
New Mexico just might get a title shot on Aug. 28. Top contender Austin Trout (21-0, 13 KOs), of Las Cruces, who’s been on the shelf since last September, will finally get his chance at the WBA 154-pound Interim Champ Nobuhiro Ishida (22-5-2, 7 KOs), of Japan, if things are finalized. The fight will take place in Albuquerque, venue TBA. The holder of the interim belt will be the mandatory for WBA Light Middleweight Champ Miguel Cotto.

The Sky Ute Casino in Ignacio, Colo. will not be having a July boxing show – But an MMA card is set for July 31st. The line-up includes Albuquerque’s Nathan Randall vs. TBA in a 155-pound three-rounder; Albuquerque’s Josh Lanier vs. Billy Colon of Las Cruces, at 205 lbs.; Aztec, N.M.’s Sterling Bryant vs. Frankie Morris of Cheyenne, Wyo., at 135; Belen’s Eric Baca vs. Pat Murphy of Cheyenne, at 135; and, at 120, Belen’s Ronnie White vs. Carlos Madrigal of Cheyenne. Six amateur bouts will precede the pro show.
A press conference on Tuesday will officially announce an August 14 card at Santa Ana Star Center in Bernalillo, N.M., promoted by Eagle Boxing and Golden Girl Promotions. In the main event, undefeated Thaddine Swifteagle Johnson (5-0, 5 KOs), Training at Floyd Mayweather’s gym in Las Vegas, Nev., is expected to fight for her first world title. In the co-main, Albuquerque’s Victoria Cisneros (5-9-1) will take on Melissa Hernandez (12-2-2, 4 Kos) of Bronx, New York, in what will probably be a title fight at lightweight. Boxing will take place at the Chama Recreation Center, 302 Pine Ave.; Rodeo will be held at the Chama Rodeo Arena.
